EMPLOYEE AGREEMENT FOR ACCEPTABLE USE OF THE

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

 

 

You are being given access to the District’s electronic communications system.  Through this system, you will be able to communicate with other schools, colleges, organizations, and people around the world through the Internet and other electronic information systems/networks.  You will have access to hundreds of databases, libraries, and computer services all over the world.                   

With this opportunity comes responsibility.  It is important that you read the District policy, administrative regulations, and agreement form and ask questions if you need help in understanding them.  Inappropriate system use will result in the loss of the privilege of using this educational and administrative tool.      

Please note that the Internet is a network of many types of communication and information networks.  It is possible that you may run across some material you might find objectionable.  While the District will use filtering technology to restrict access to such material, it is not possible to absolutely prevent such access.  It will be your responsibility to follow the rules for appropriate use.  

 

RULES FOR APPROPRIATE USE

·        The account is to be used mainly for educational purposes, but some limited personal use is permitted.                                       

·        You will be held responsible at all times for the proper use of your account, and the District may suspend or revoke your access if you violate the rules.                                                                

·        Remember that people who receive e-mail from you with a school address might think your message represents the school's point of view.    

INAPPROPRIATE USES

·        Using the system for any illegal purpose.

·        Disabling or attempting to disable any Internet filtering device.

·        Encrypting communications to avoid security review.      

·        Borrowing someone's account without permission.                          

·        Downloading or using copyrighted information without permission from the copyright holder.

·        Intentionally introducing a virus to the computer system.

·        Posting messages or accessing materials that are abusive, obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, harassing, damaging to another's reputation, or illegal. 

·        Wasting school resources through improper use of the computer system.    

·        Gaining unauthorized access to restricted information or resources. 

CONSEQUENCES FOR INAPPROPRIATE USE

·        Suspension of access to the system;

·        Revocation of the computer system account; or

·        Other disciplinary or legal action, in accordance with the District policies and applicable laws. 

·         

I understand that my computer use is not private and that the District will monitor my activity on the computer system.

I have read the District's electronic communications system policy and administrative regulations and agree to abide by their provisions.  In consideration for the privilege of using the District's electronic communications system and in consideration for having access to the public networks, I hereby release the District, its operators, and any institutions with which they are affiliated from any and all claims and damages of any nature arising from my use of, or inability to use, the system, including, without limitation, the type of damages identified in the District's policy and administrative regulations.

The mission of Laredo Independent School District, as an educational partner in the city of Laredo, is to educate our students by providing a relevant and challenging curriculum through innovative programs and effective use of all resources.

 

Technology Educational Goals

Goal I – LISD will have total community commitment to rigorous standards and student success.

  • Organize annual workshops and informational sessions for community through the campuses.
  • Provide opportunities to involve community and families in education through the use of technology.

Goal II – LISD will have a challenging and relevant curriculum and standards-based instruction.

  • Establish high technology standards for all stakeholders.
  • Increase academic performance across the curriculum through technology.
  • Provide opportunities, incentives and support for educators to develop model practices using technology.
  • Design and implement educator development, on site by distance and distributed learning, to meet expectations for technology proficiencies by educators.

Goal III – LISD will have safe and orderly schools.

  • Continue to implement policies and guidelines on electronic data communication.

Goal IV – LISD will have a highly effective site-based decision-making process focused on student learning.

  • Facilitate local planning and decision-making, increase local knowledge of technology, encourage communication among different stakeholders, increase potential of future collaboration, and increase sustainability.

  • Investigate multiple financial arrangements for securing and recycling workstations and other technologies.
  • Provide access to appropriately configured workstations to students, parents, and staff in libraries, school offices, and/or in other work areas, ensuring accessibility for disabled students and staff.
  • Develop a district Technology Handbook with procedures and guidelines.
  • Increase efficiency in administrative operations. 

 

User's Guidelines Purpose and Rights

 

All district guidelines and procedures for acceptable use of technology are intended to make the district’s equipment, applications/programs and the system network more efficient, accessible and reliable for all users. 

 

The use of the District’s computer equipment and the participation in any online communication services (i.e. Internet, e-mail, distance learning, Intranet and web pages) is a privilege and not a right.  User must also follow all requirements and expectations of Student Conduct.  User shall understand LISD will periodically audit, inspect, and/or monitor the user’s Internet access as deemed appropriate.

 

“ User” is defined as Laredo ISD students, employees, volunteers, community members, and guests with access to a computer, Internet, and other technological equipment and software through the district.

 

Audits – Electronic auditing shall be implemented within all unclassified networks that connect to the Internet or other publicity accessible networks to support identification, termination, and prosecution of unauthorized activity.  These electronic audit mechanisms shall be capable of recording:

·        Access to the system, including successful and failed login attempts, and logouts;
